Changing Car

Posted on November 9, 2012 at 5:30 PM
I'm starting to look for a new car. My current faithfull Nissan Micra doesn't owe me anything having just completed 98000 miles, but it won't last forever and there signs now deteroration, I had to replace the battery today as it was the very first time in five years I got into the car and it wouldn't start.
I'm not sure which new car to buy. I would have a another Micra, but the manufacturers have bought out a new model and its reported not to be as good as the old.
My husband wants us to have a Mini. I'm sure that you students would like it, I'm sure it would be easy to drive like the Micra, but its very expensive to buy and you don't get much for your money. Also its very small, you can't get 1, let alone 2 suitcases in the boot. Another thing is high cost to maintain, you only get 45 miles to the gallon, Micra is 55 miles to gallon and petrol is on increase all the time. Certainly not likely to go down in price by huge amounts. My father has a Mini which has only done 60000 miles and it needs a new gear box!
The car I would like is Citron DS3. Its smart, a little bigger than the Micra, which means it has a boot that will hold 2 suitcases. Low running costs up 80 miles per gallon. Does anyone know any known faults on DS3 Citron?

You are very welcome I hope you will be as pleased with your new Nissan Micra as I'm. Just for the record its still going and has now done nearly 202000 miles.

Thank you for your kind comments and I'm glad you find what I've written interesting and useful. My Micra is still going like a dream, however I'm not tempting fate for much longer and hoping to be changing it in the next few weeks.

I think some of the reasons the Micra has done so well despite being a Driving Instructor car, I've always driven carefully, by always being in the right gear for the speed, and not being heavy on the gas pedal. I always had the car service regulary sometimes 5 times a year. Like I always say to my students look after your car and it will look after you. Also the more noise the engine makes the more wear and tear you put on your car.

Many thanks for all your words of encouragement, I'm please that you've found my imformation useful. Please bare it mind that I'm a Driving Instructor by trade and really don't know much about the mechanics of a car. As I tell my students I just know how to operate a car in other words drive them. The information I've given out is only from my exprience.

I have finally purchase my new car and looking forward to receiving it next week. The car I've bought is Citreon DS3 and is the first time in my life I would have own a diesal car. It certainly doesn't drive or sounds like a diesal car. Only thing now I'll have to make sure I put only diesal in it and not petrol.

Only other disapointing point is that every new car like the renault Clio and Vauxall Adam seem to have model their cars on the DS3 and they are all starting to look the same.

But my students are looking forward to driving the new car.

Really this is cool information about Changing Car. This is so informative. I know dude you've been a qualified Driving Instructor since 2004. I've taught school children off road as young as 14 years old, some with various learning difficulties and autism. I will come back to your blog. Thanks
